Constant Velocity Lift Cylinders

Delta manufactures telescopic cylinders that deliver force with controlled constant velocity.

How It Works

A regular telescopic extends or retracts stage-by-stage. For example, during extension stage 1 extends first and when fully extended then stage 2 extends, then stage 3 etc. Because the next stage to extend has a smaller diameter than the previous stage, the velocity of the stage extension increases as the as the stage being extended gets smaller.

A constant velocity cylinder is designed in such a way that when the cylinder is in its fully closed state oil is trapped in the annulus area of all stages except the smallest stage. As oil is introduced to the full bore of the largest stage the piston rod on this stage begins to extend transferring the oil trapped in the annulus area of the largest stage into the full bore of the next stage. The transfer of oil causes the piston rod on the next stage to extend so that both piston rods are extending at the same time and same velocity until the maximum stroke is reached.

Applications

These cylinders are ideal for applications where there is a need to provide a safe, stable and smooth motion.

  • Passenger lifts / elevators for residences or small businesses
  • Disabled lifts / elevators for residences or small businesses
  • Goods & freight lifts for transporting goods between floors in retail, storage and manufacturing buildings as well as on mining and construction sites
