Prime Minister Scott Morrison visits Delta Hydraulics

DEVONPORT, TASMANIA - Prime Minister Scott Morrison visits Delta Hydraulics after signing an important energy supply memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Premier of Tasmania, Peter Gutwein.
The MoU sees the Commonwealth committing $150 million to undertake the design and approval of the second electricity interconnector between Tasmania and mainland Australia. The key objective of the Marinus Link project is to leverage Tasmania as the “Battery of the Nation” to lower electricity prices and create jobs in high energy dependent sectors like manufacturing.
Delta Hydraulics owner John White said Mr Morrison's visit to Devonport on Tuesday was a great opportunity to show the prime minister the importance of a reliable energy supply for Tasmanian manufacturing.
"We have got to move away from inefficient methods of energy production of solar and wind because you only get power in daylight or windy conditions and we need power 24/7," he said.
"The Marinus Link will enable us to tap into the coal fired outputs on the mainland, but frankly what I don't want to see is existing hydro sold off and not enough water left to fuel Tasmanian businesses."
Prime Minster Morrison viewed Delta’s 650 tonne Friction Welder in operation and spoke with two of Delta’s apprentices.
