Tas Libs warning on carbon tax
11 July 2011
DEVONPORT, TASMANIA - The Shadow Assistant Treasurer Senator Mathias Corman accompanied the Tasmanian Senators on tour of Devonport's Delta Hydraulics factory, which employs 110 people.
The owner, John White, says the carbon tax will make his company less competitive in global markets, and jobs cuts are possible.
Senator Corman says the Opposition is arguing the tax will destroy the manufacturing industry, and drive jobs and investment overseas.
"For no purpose, other than so the Prime Minister and Bob Brown can pat themselves on the back and say that they've somehow done something symbolic for the environment, even though it doesn't make any tangible difference whatsoever, in that it doesn't do anything to help reduce global greenhouse gas emissions," said Sen. Corman.
