Manufacturing Capability
Delta has a 8,500m2 manufacturing facility in Devonport, Tasmania which undertakes the full cycle of hydraulic cylinder manufacture.
Welding
In addition to Delta's rotary welding capacity, Delta has a 600 tonne friction welding machine. The friction welding machine is primarily used to weld rod assembly clevises to solid or hollow bar and has many advantages including:
- Full surface weld gives superior strength in critical areas
- Enables joining of dissimilar materials normally not compatible for welding by other joining methods
- Creates narrow, heat-affected zone
- Solid state process – no possibility of porosity or slag inclusions
- Environmentally friendly process – no fumes, gases, or smoke generated

Machining
Delta has extensive machining capabilities with an impressive range of CNC Lathes, CNC Turning Centres, CNC Machining Centres, Manual Lathes and Manual Mills.
Our CNC Turning capacity can machine from 1000mm diameter x 3 metres down, with hollow spindle capacity to 520mm.
Grinding
Our surface grinding capacity is up to 1000mm OD x 7000mm long, and centreless grinding machines have a capability of grinding 25mm-300mm OD x 12000mm long as well as internal grinding up to 500mm ID x 400mm long.
Skiving & Burnishing
Internal tube cylinder bore surface finishing is achieved via state of the art skiving-burnishing machines.
Delta can skive bores from steel tube ID 1.5" (38.1mm) to 14.5" (368.3mm) and tube length in the range 3,570mm to 9,000mm.
Induction Hardening
Delta has two induction and quenching machines with the capacity to harden steel work pieces from 300mm OD to 275mm and a length of 30mm to 10,000mm.
Induction hardening uses induced heat and rapid cooling (quenching) to increase the hardness and durability of steel. Induction is a no-contact process that quickly produces intense, localised and controllable heat. With induction, only the part to be hardened is heated. Optimising process parameters such as heating cycles, frequencies and coil and quench design result in the best possible outcomes.
Chrome Plating
Delta utilises the world's first horizontal reciprocating in-solution chrome plating machine which can chrome work pieces 12 metres in length and our vertical hard chrome facility is the largest in Australia.
The 9 metre deep vertical tanks and solid state computer controlled rectifiers can handle work pieces up to 8.5 metres long and provide in process triplex plating.
EDM
Delta's wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) can machine intricate shapes in metal workpieces and is a valuable machine for customised hydraulic cylinder designs with specialist parts.
Gun & Ejector Drills
Delta's gun and ejector drill machines give it the capability to drill internal ports within rod and tube walls, and telescopic cylinder tube walls.
Annular ported hydraulic cylinders eliminate the exposure of hydraulic hoses and line tubes to physical, fire or chemical damage and ideal for applications where there is no space for external hoses and tubes.
